Kennedy Agyapong Starts Central Tour with Health Donations

NPP presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong inaugurated his Central Region campaign tour on Tuesday with a pledge to overhaul healthcare delivery, unveiling donations of dialysis machines and emergency beds at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

Addressing staff and patients, Agyapong said he chose the hospital to start his tour because “I’m from the Central Region and have been giving donations to other regions without my own region. So tell me what you want.” The former Assin Central MP emphasised that the visit aims to translate campaign promises into tangible support for his home constituency.

He warned against short‑term fixes, stating, “I don’t want a bus. A bus will break down and my name will die. I want to do something that will last forever and ever.” Agyapong stressed that durable infrastructure, rather than fleeting gestures, will leave a lasting legacy.

Speaking about sustainability, he added, “If I’m not here, my son, I pray for him to live long; he will always maintain that block and the equipment involved.” The candidate highlighted that his family will oversee the upkeep of the donated assets.

Agyapong pledged to supply at least five dialysis machines by February 2026, citing the nationwide shortage of renal care equipment. “When we talk of dialysis, in February I’ll make sure I buy five for this hospital,” he assured the audience.

He also announced the procurement of two hundred emergency hospital beds, promising delivery in the first week of February. “I have ordered hospital beds for emergency. I’ll give you 200 in the first week of February,” he said.

The donations come as Agyapong intensifies his bid for the NPP flagbearership, positioning himself as a candidate who delivers concrete development projects. While supporters hail the initiative as a boost for regional health services, political analysts note that other aspirants have yet to outline comparable concrete contributions.

Observers will watch how the promised equipment is installed and maintained, with the first deliveries expected early next year. The rollout may set a benchmark for candidate‑led development initiatives ahead of the 2024 presidential primaries.
