Kennedy Agyapong Rejects Bawumia Meeting

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has launched a scathing attack on his main rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stating the former Vice President holds no importance in his life.

Speaking in a recent interview on Accra-based United Television, Mr. Agyapong went further, declaring that Dr. Bawumia “does not exist” in his personal or political sphere.

“I do not have time for Dr. Bawumia. In my life, he does not exist, because if he existed, I might commit a crime. That is how I see myself,” Agyapong said emphatically.

The Assin Central MP also accused Dr. Bawumia of orchestrating controversial statements made by the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, though he declined to elaborate on the specifics.

Mr. Agyapong further warned against any attempts to manipulate the upcoming NPP flagbearer election, expressing concerns about internal party tactics. “I do not have time for them, but that does not mean they have to rig the election. I believe in the structures, and I know all the Electoral Commission officials my opponents have engaged with. They plan to use the party’s internal security to humiliate anyone who comes close,” he asserted.

Recounting an earlier incident at the residence of President Nana Akufo-Addo, Agyapong claimed his remarks were taken out of context and misrepresented on social media. “Some time ago, something happened at the residence of former President Akufo-Addo. I mentioned a certain man’s name; there was nobody there when I left. The next day, it was posted on social media, but I do not have anything against anybody,” he explained.

Mr. Agyapong also voiced his disappointment over what he perceives as a lack of appreciation for his contributions to the NPP. He questioned whether Dr. Bawumia had acknowledged his support during the recent elections. “Did I not campaign for him during the recent election? After that, did he even call me to appreciate my efforts? His followers were even insulting me. The only loyal person from his camp was NAPO,” he lamented, referring to Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

He added that he personally supported NAPO, providing items from his warehouse for distribution. “I took him to my warehouse and gave out items freely. He had young boys who claimed that I never campaigned,” Agyapong stated.
