Kennedy Agyapong Claims Bawumia Behind Abronye's Attacks

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has leveled serious accusations against former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, alleging his involvement in controversial statements made by the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC.

“He [Dr Mahamamudu Bawumia] is the one behind Abronye’s rants, and I just do not want to say anything,” Mr Agyapong declared in an interview with Accra-based United Television.

The outspoken MP further accused his rivals within the NPP of attempting to manipulate party structures for an unfair advantage in the upcoming flagbearer elections. “I do not have time for them, but that does not mean they have to rig the election. I believe in the structures, and I know all the Electoral Commission officials my opponents have engaged with. They plan to use the party’s internal security to humiliate anyone who comes close,” he stated.

Mr Agyapong went on to express a significant personal and political distance from Dr Bawumia, stating, “I do not have time for Dr Bawumia. In my life, he does not exist, because if he existed, I might commit a crime. That is how I see myself.”

Addressing a past incident that occurred at the residence of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr Agyapong maintained that the events were misrepresented on social media. “Some time ago, something happened at the residence of former President Akufo-Addo. I mentioned a certain man’s name; there was nobody there when I left. The next day, it was posted on social media, but I do not have anything against anybody,” he explained.

The flagbearer hopeful also voiced his disappointment over what he perceives as a lack of appreciation for his campaign efforts during the recent elections. “Did I not campaign for him during the recent election? After that, did he even call me to appreciate my efforts? His followers were even insulting me,” he lamented. He noted that the only member of Dr Bawumia’s camp he felt showed loyalty was Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO). “I took him to my warehouse and gave out items freely. He had young boys who claimed that I never campaigned,” he added.
