A1 Diesel Limited CEO, Aldis Ozols, has shared a compelling perspective on wealth and happiness, revealing that while money is crucial, its impact plateaus after a certain income level.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Personality Profile with Lexis Bill on Thursday, December 11, 2025, Ozols, author of the new book “Win Life, Lose Millions,” argued that financial stability is fundamental to contentment, but chasing endless riches is a fruitless pursuit.
Ozols, whose life story includes losing a 17 million Euro empire and rebuilding in Ghana, directly challenged the notion that money can’t buy happiness. “When somebody says money doesn’t buy happiness, they just don’t know where to shop,” he quipped.
He explained his need for financial resources stems from their ability to provide comfort and choice. “I needed the money because I know what money can do. I can clearly see that with the money you can buy things; you can make yourself happy,” Ozols stated.
However, the entrepreneur cautioned against unchecked ambition, citing scientific research that suggests happiness doesn’t increase indefinitely with income. “I’m not talking about millions or billions or something, okay, because after 73,000 yearly, it is already scientifically proven that after 73,000 a year, your happiness from the money doesn’t rise again,” he explained.
Ozols believes that beyond this threshold, individuals often focus on acquiring possessions rather than cultivating genuine emotional fulfillment. This aligns with studies showing emotional well-being plateaus once basic needs and financial security are met.
His journey to Ghana began after the 2008 financial crisis left him with 7 million Euros in debt. A pivotal moment involved selling his wife’s jewellery, offered as seed capital, to restart his life. Ozols attributes his success in Ghana, where A1 Diesel Limited has become a significant player in the petroleum sector, to the resilience and decisive thinking honed during his time in Special Forces.
“Win Life, Lose Millions” details Ozols’s remarkable story, offering lessons on overcoming adversity and prioritizing sustainable value creation over mere profit accumulation.
