A financial dispute over a leaky roof has landed a trader in court, accused of causing a severe eye injury to the carpenter he hired. Adam Zakaria is facing charges after allegedly striking Eric Djan in the eye with his walking stick following disagreements about payment for the repair work. This unfortunate incident has sparked an eye injury court case, raising questions about accountability and the consequences of unresolved conflicts. The Accra Circuit Court is now hearing the details of the altercation that led to Djan’s injury. This report details the sequence of events that culminated in the court case, the specific charges leveled against Zakaria, and the current status of the legal proceedings.

In October 2024, Zakaria engaged Djan to fix a leak in his roof, providing an upfront payment of GH¢200. However, the work was never completed, leading to mounting frustration on Zakaria’s part. Months passed, and the roof remained unrepaired, fueling a dispute over the roof repair dispute that would ultimately turn violent. Djan’s failure to fulfill his contractual obligation became the catalyst for a heated confrontation.

The tension finally erupted on January 20, 2025, at Danquah Roundabout. Zakaria encountered Djan and demanded an explanation for the unfinished work. Djan claimed that he had been unable to complete the repair due to illness. This explanation did little to appease Zakaria, and the argument quickly escalated. According to police reports, the verbal exchange turned physical, resulting in the alleged assault. Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer stated, “This resulted in a quarrel between the two, and in the process, the accused thrust his walking stick into the complainant’s left eye.” The walking stick assault left Djan with a serious injury.

Djan immediately sought medical attention after the incident, bleeding profusely from his injured eye. He was rushed to the Police Hospital for emergency care. Doctors determined that the injury was severe, causing blurred vision. Medical professionals advised that Djan would require surgery to address the damage caused by the blow. The extent of the eye injury highlighted the severity of the alleged attack and the long road to recovery facing the carpenter.

Zakaria was arrested on May 8, 2025, and subsequently brought before the Accra Circuit Court to answer for his actions. He was charged with causing harm, a criminal offense under Ghanaian law. When asked to enter a plea, Zakaria pleaded not guilty to the charge. Judge Isaac Addo presided over the hearing and granted Zakaria bail in the amount of GH¢50,000, with the condition that he provide two sureties. The judge also ordered the prosecution to comply with disclosure rules, ensuring that all relevant evidence is made available to the defense. The Accra Circuit Court now has the responsibility of ensuring justice is served for this eye injury court case.

The eye injury court case involving Adam Zakaria and Eric Djan highlights how a simple disagreement can quickly escalate into a tragic event. The initial agreement for roof repair, the confrontation at Danquah Roundabout, the resulting injury, and the ongoing legal proceedings have significantly impacted both men’s lives. Zakaria is currently out on bail, awaiting further court dates, while the prosecution prepares its case. The legal outcomes and the long-term consequences for both individuals remain uncertain as the judicial process unfolds. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
