KUMASI, Ghana – A major drug hub bust on Thinka Island has sent shockwaves through the Kumasi community, spotlighting the area’s long-standing reputation as a haven for illicit drug activities. In a decisive operation, the Ashanti Regional Police Command successfully apprehended 34 individuals, marking a significant victory in the fight against drug-related crimes in the region. The coordinated raid, detailed in official police reports, underscores law enforcement’s commitment to reclaiming the island and ensuring public safety.

Thinka Island has long been a cause for concern for authorities and residents alike, its secluded location making it an attractive spot for drug traffickers and users. But recent events signal a determined effort to dismantle these criminal networks and restore order.

Ashanti Regional Police Crackdown on Thinka Island

The Ashanti Regional Police Command executed a meticulously planned raid on Thinka Island, resulting in the arrest of 34 suspects directly linked to drug-related operations. The operation followed a directive from Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, emphasizing the government’s resolve to address the escalating drug problem in the area. Speaking on the matter, Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Godwin Ahianyo, affirmed the police’s unwavering dedication to eradicating drug-related crimes and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens. “This operation demonstrates the police’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes and protecting lives and property,” DSP Godwin Ahianyo stated.

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody, where they are assisting with ongoing investigations. Simultaneously, all retrieved exhibits are undergoing thorough forensic examination to gather crucial evidence for prosecution.

Related Drug Arrest at Aboabo No. 1

In a separate but related operation, police also apprehended 29-year-old Adam Mohammed at Aboabo No. 1 for his involvement in the illegal trade of narcotics. This arrest highlights the pervasive nature of drug-related activities across the Ashanti Region.

During the arrest, police seized a substantial quantity of tramadol, including 35 packs of 250mg, 28 packs of 120mg, and 11 packs of 225mg. Additionally, authorities confiscated 50 empty cartons and GH₵ 66,950.00, believed to be proceeds from illicit drug sales. The bust represents a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the area.

Police Assurance and Commitment

DSP Ahianyo reassured the public that the police are working tirelessly to ensure their safety and security. “The police are working tirelessly to protect life and property in the region,” he stated, underscoring the commitment to ongoing efforts to combat drug crimes and other criminal activities.

The recent drug arrests in Ashanti Region, including the Thinka Island drug hub bust, demonstrate the effectiveness of targeted police operations and the government’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking. These actions send a clear message to criminals that their activities will not be tolerated.

The successful operation at Thinka Island and the related arrest of Adam Mohammed underscore the police’s unwavering dedication to fighting drug-related crimes in the Ashanti Region. The police are actively working to protect life and property. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities, contributing to a safer community for all.
