Ato Forson: Sammy Gyamfi Goldbod Work Equal 5 Years

Politics

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson praised Goldbod CEO Sammy Gyamfi, saying the agency’s reforms achieved in a single year would normally take at least five years in the public sector.

Forson explained that Goldbod was created to confront inflation and build foreign‑exchange reserves, describing the institution as his long‑term brainchild.

“I had to tackle inflation. I had to tackle the structural issues, like how do I build reserves to make sure the currency stabilises. Then I introduced Goldbod. It’s been a brainchild for a very long time. I designed it and had to find someone strong enough to lead it,” Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Finance Minister, said.

The minister highlighted that Sammy Gyamfi stood out for his energy, determination and capacity to deliver results, qualities the President sought in the role.

“Sammy Gyamfi had always come to mind. The President chose him, and he’s a young man with drive. It’s difficult to get people with that kind of energy, determination and spirit. You have to study people to know who can do the work, and we believed he was the right person,” he added.

Forson noted the pace of reforms under Gyamfi, stating the work done in recent months would normally require five years.

“To be honest, the kind of work he’s done in the last few months would normally take somebody five years to do. And I salute him,” the Finance Minister said.

The minister said the reforms have improved operational efficiency, strengthened systems, enhanced financial discipline and restored public confidence in Goldbod.

He further stressed that focused leadership, accountability and urgency can significantly shorten timelines without compromising governance standards.

Forson reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting institutions and leaders who deliver measurable outcomes, uphold transparency and ensure value for money in the management of public resources.
