The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has lauded Nutrifoods Ghana Limited for its dedication to safety, job creation, and local manufacturing during a recent working visit.

Nutrifoods Ghana, a joint venture between Olam and Sanyo, is a significant player in Ghana’s fast-moving consumer goods sector, processing well-known brands like Tasty Tom, NutriSnax, Royal King Cracker, and Perk. The company has been operating in Ghana for almost 15 years, carefully developing products to suit local preferences.

Dr Pelpuo toured the company’s facility in the Tema Industrial Area, where the popular Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix is produced. This plant stands as the largest tomato-based processing and canning facility in West Africa.

The Minister commended Nutrifoods’ safety record, noting over 14 years without any reported accidents resulting in lost work time. He also acknowledged its commitment to the government’s 24-hour economy initiative through a 24-hour shift system, as well as its contribution to employment and economic progress.

“I am impressed that the company is well established here and the products are made here by Ghanaians,” Dr Pelpuo told the media, expressing satisfaction with the quality of Nutrifoods’ output and the importance of homegrown brands.

He further stated that discussions with management and staff revealed a positive labour environment, demonstrating strong adherence to occupational safety and health regulations and labour laws. “Government views the private sector as a key partner in tackling unemployment and remains committed to supporting its growth,” he added.

Mr Jay Anjaria, Managing Director and Business Head of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, revealed the company employs nearly 2,000 people and consistently invests in developing local expertise in line with international standards.

Mr Anjaria highlighted Nutrifoods Ghana’s recognition as a Top Employer in Ghana and across Africa for five consecutive years by the Top Employers Institute. This accolade, he explained, reflects the company’s dedication to people-focused policies, employee development, and a welcoming work atmosphere.

Directors from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment accompanied the Minister on the visit.
