Gospel music star Celestine Donkor has attributed the success of her marriage to the principles of love, understanding, and forgiveness.
The ‘Agbeboloo’ singer, speaking in an interview with Lekzy Decomic on Joy Prime’s prime time show, emphasized that these elements are crucial not only for her marital life but also for maintaining harmony within her family and ministry.
“I believe you can marry any guy when these three elements are practised,” she stated, rooting her perspective firmly in her Christian faith. According to Donkor, love is fundamentally for imperfect individuals, mirroring Christ’s love for humanity despite its flaws.
“What introduced love to us is Christ, and Christ loved us while we were still sinners. Love is supposed to be done to imperfect people, but we humans want to love perfect people, and that is the struggle. Love is an antidote to imperfection,” she explained.
Celestine Donkor also lauded her husband, who serves as her manager, acknowledging the challenges they’ve navigated while successfully balancing marriage, family, and her demanding music career. “I have married my family and my ministry. Everything is married,” she said.
She firmly believes in integrating her family life with her calling, stating, “It’s really hard to separate family from ministry. I believe family is ministry, so my husband is in it, and so are my children. Everybody does their role appropriately.”
Interestingly, the celebrated musician revealed that a career in music wasn’t her initial plan. “The plan was to be a businesswoman or to study law, but I ended up doing music,” she recounted.
Donkor also shared a personal anecdote, recalling a difficult period in her marriage where she faced a disagreement with her husband but still had to fulfill her ministerial obligations. “I had to pull myself together and show up for ministration despite the circumstance,” she said, highlighting the discipline required to manage both personal and professional commitments.
