Adutwum Spokesperson Urges Ashanti Unity

The spokesperson for Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, has called on delegates in the Ashanti Region to rally behind the Bosomtwe Member of Parliament. Yaw Opoku Mensah described the upcoming flagbearer election as crucial for the region’s political standing and unity.

Mr. Opoku Mensah raised concerns about what he termed “political repositioning” by some contenders, alleging they were attempting to establish links to the Ashanti Region solely for strategic advantage. He suggested these aspirants had previously distanced themselves from the region.

According to Mr. Opoku Mensah, such tactics could undermine authenticity and create confusion among the NPP’s grassroots supporters. “Ashanti must respond with clarity and purpose, not political sentimentality,” he emphasized.

He strongly asserted that Dr. Adutwum is uniquely positioned, possessing an undeniable and genuine connection to the Ashanti Region. “Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum stands apart as the only candidate whose connection to the region is both organic and unquestionable,” he stated.

Mr. Opoku Mensah highlighted Dr. Adutwum’s Ashanti heritage – with both parents hailing from Jachie – and his consistent advocacy for the region’s interests on the national level. He noted Dr. Adutwum’s current role as the MP for Bosomtwe as further evidence of his commitment.

Beyond his lineage, the spokesperson lauded Dr. Adutwum’s competence and dedication to national service, arguing that the Ashanti Region had successfully nurtured a leader ready for higher office. He added that Dr. Adutwum’s governance approach is characterized by discipline, strategic foresight, and a thorough understanding of Ghana’s developmental challenges.

Drawing a parallel with the strong unity often demonstrated by NPP supporters in the Northern regions, Mr. Opoku Mensah urged Ashanti delegates to embrace a similar sense of collective responsibility. He believes a united front is vital for energizing the party base and bolstering the NPP’s chances in future elections.

“This is a rare opportunity to mobilize our base around a candidate who embodies both identity and performance,” Mr. Opoku Mensah said, portraying Dr. Adutwum as a leader capable of attracting support beyond the NPP’s traditional voter base.

He framed the delegates’ decision as a patriotic duty, cautioning against accepting a candidate who doesn’t fully represent the region’s aspirations. “Ashanti’s strength lies in backing a candidate whose roots, record, and readiness align with the party’s long-term vision,” he insisted. He warned against “settling for less.”

The comments come amid heightened internal discussions within the NPP, as stakeholders consider factors such as regional balance, leadership capabilities, and electability in choosing a flagbearer.
