Mahama Says Ghana's Success Tied to Nigeria's Prosperity

Former President John Mahama has reaffirmed the strong ties between Ghana and Nigeria, describing the relationship as deeply rooted in history and vital for mutual progress.

Speaking on Monday in Ife State, Nigeria, where he was honoured, Mr. Mahama expressed confidence that Nigeria’s prosperity would positively impact Ghana, citing the close cultural, economic, and social connections between the two nations.

He highlighted the shared values and ambitions of Ghana and Nigeria, positioning them as key partners in driving regional development and continental leadership. “I know that there is a historic bond between the people of Ghana and the people of Nigeria. When Nigeria prospers, Ghana prospers. When Ghana prospers, Nigeria prospers. God brought two of us together, we are like twins of the same mother,” he stated.

The former President was installed as Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source by the Ooni of Ife, the overlord of the Ife Kingdom, at a colourful traditional ceremony. Mr. Mahama described the honour as a testament to the unity and shared heritage between Ghana and Nigeria, and a commitment to strengthening people-to-people relations.

The installation, according to sources, signifies a deepening of cultural exchange and collaboration between the two West African giants. It is expected to foster even closer ties in areas of trade, investment, and regional security.
