Adwoa Safo Warns NPP Delegates Against Disrespecting Women

Former Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has issued a stern warning to delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging them to reject candidates who exhibit disrespect towards women. She believes such behaviour could have dire consequences for the party’s electoral fortunes.

Ms. Safo’s comments were a direct response to the conduct of NPP flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, whom she accused of consistently making disparaging remarks about women in public.

“If you are going to elect a candidate who opens his mouth to rain insults on women, how would women vote?” she questioned, highlighting the potential alienation of a significant voting bloc.

The former MP recounted personal experiences, alleging sustained verbal abuse from Mr. Agyapong. “Didn’t you hear him raining insults on me in this country? Didn’t you hear Honourable Kennedy Agyapong raining insults on me? He said I am disrespectful, that I spent government funds, and that former President Akufo-Addo pampered me. He called me useless and said my father could not control me,” she stated.

Ms. Adwoa Safo cautioned that overlooking such behaviour could prove costly for the NPP, especially in future elections. She warned that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) would readily exploit Mr. Agyapong’s past statements if he were to become the party’s flagbearer.

“So, if you do not listen and continue to vote carelessly, the NDC is waiting for you to elect him so they can refer him to his past record of insults, including those directed at me, a woman with whom he has two children. Imagine what he would do to you,” she added, appealing to delegates to consider the broader implications of their choice.
