Access Bank (Ghana) PLC has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable banking, clinching two awards at the 2025 Sustainability & Social Investment (SSI) Awards held on Friday at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

The Bank was recognised as the Best Company in Employee Volunteering Initiatives and Best Company in Sustainable Financing & Investment, further cementing its position as a leading purpose-driven financial institution dedicated to community empowerment and positive socio-economic and environmental impact.

The awards acknowledge Access Bank’s consistent investment in initiatives that prioritize people, foster community development, and forge partnerships that contribute to Ghana’s national progress. Pearl Nkrumah, Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana, stated that the recognition highlights the Bank’s unwavering dedication to a sustainable future.

“Sustainability is not an event for us, it is a continuous journey that guides how we serve our customers, support our communities, and create impact. These awards reinforce the work we are doing through our employees and our strategic partners,” she said.

Through its Sustainable Finance mandate, Access Bank has launched several programmes to promote responsible lending, bolster support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and drive financial innovation across Africa. This includes a partnership with Birmingham City University focused on green financing and SME capacity building, and a collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to improve financial access for small businesses in Ghana, particularly women entrepreneurs.

The Bank has also teamed up with Mastercard to introduce a unified cross-border payment solution for key African markets, facilitating seamless international transactions for individuals and businesses to and from over 150 countries.

Further bolstering the SME sector, Access Bank recently partnered with DHL Express Ghana to provide local businesses with the resources and support needed to access global markets. This initiative aligns with the government’s drive to accelerate SME growth as a key driver of national development and leverages opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Beyond financial contributions, Access Bank’s strong employee volunteering culture continues to positively impact communities throughout Ghana. Staff actively participate in numerous social initiatives annually, supporting projects in education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and youth empowerment. This commitment was instrumental in securing the award for Employee Volunteering Initiatives.

Access Bank Ghana remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing sustainability, promoting financial inclusion, and delivering innovative banking solutions that improve the lives of individuals, businesses, and communities across the nation.
