Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has expressed his frustration with the media, accusing them of unfair treatment following the team’s recent struggles with form.
Zito revealed that as many as thirteen first-team players have been battling injuries, a significant factor contributing to the Porcupine Warriors’ difficulties in the Ghana Premier League.
The Kumasi-based club ended a four-game winless run on Sunday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Dreams FC.
Speaking in a post-match conference, Coach Zito lamented, “Some journalists are unfairly putting pressure on me.”
He drew a comparison to the coverage of injuries in European football, stating, “When Pep Guardiola says Rodri is injured, nobody complains. But when I say we have thirteen injured players, it suddenly becomes a problem.”
Zito further pointed out the disparity in how injuries reported by other coaches are received. “Bashir complained about the absence of three players, and nobody says anything. I speak about thirteen absentees, and it becomes a problem. You should be very honest with yourselves. I am not happy with the way you people are treating me.”
The win over Dreams FC propelled Kotoko to third place on the league table with 24 points, just three points behind league leaders Aduana FC.
The Porcupines will next be in action with an away match against Eleven Wonders at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
