Naa Dombo III, the traditional ruler of Douri, hometown of the late S.D. Dombo, has predicted a resounding victory for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries slated for January 2026.
The chief made the prediction when he welcomed Dr. Bawumia to Douri during a campaign tour of the Upper West Region. Naa Dombo III further stated that he foresees Dr. Bawumia being elected President of Ghana in the 2028 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia’s visit was a homecoming of sorts, as Douri is the birthplace of S.D. Dombo, a prominent figure in Ghana’s political history. Dombo served as a Member of Parliament for the area under the Northern People’s Party and was a founding member of the United Party (UP), the tradition from which the NPP emerged.
The former Vice President paid a visit to the family of the late S.D. Dombo and also laid wreaths at his graveside. The family expressed their deep appreciation for Dr. Bawumia’s consistent respect for the memory of their patriarch.
During the welcoming ceremony, Naa Dombo III bestowed upon Dr. Bawumia the chieftaincy title of “Naa Lewa,” which translates to “the chief has returned,” and described him as the “Second S.D. Dombo.”
“Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to remembering and honoring S.D. Dombo is commendable,” Naa Dombo III said. “We believe he carries the same vision and commitment to the development of our people.”
