Latvian entrepreneur Aldis Ozols, who has faced bankruptcy a remarkable ten times, has detailed his journey of loss and resilience in a newly released book, Lose Millions, Win Life: The Brutal Comeback Manual. He shared his story in a compelling interview on JoyNews’ Personality Profile with Lexis Bill on December 11.

Ozols, 55, recounted losing a €17 million real estate empire in the 2008 financial crash, plunging him into a €7 million debt. “I didn’t go back to square one. I went to minus €7 million,” he told Lexis Bill, describing being left with just one apartment in Riga.

Growing up in Soviet-era Latvia, Ozols explained that private business was discouraged. “In Soviet Latvia, private business was a risk, and ambition was unwelcome,” he said, adding that his parents had tried to steer him towards a more conventional path.

Despite this, he embarked on entrepreneurial ventures, later finding success in real estate. However, the 2008 crisis and subsequent health challenges, including a heart attack, brought him to his knees.

A pivotal moment came when Ozols’ wife rallied him. With creditors demanding repayment, she gathered jewellery gifted to her and urged him to rebuild. “She said, ‘Sell it and start something new. Real estate is gone; start something new. I trust you,’” Ozols recalled, highlighting her unwavering support.

In 2010, Ozols arrived in Ghana with limited resources and established A1 Diesel Limited, specializing in diesel fuel injection systems, turbochargers, and automotive diagnostics. “Ghana gave me a second chance,” he stated, praising the country’s welcoming environment and economic opportunities.

Today, A1 Diesel Limited, located on Spintex Road in Accra, serves over 50,000 customers in more than 60 countries and generates significant annual revenue.

Ozols emphasized the importance of mental fortitude, referencing a quote from Oskar Hartmann: “Before you lose $1 billion, don’t condemn yourself. You are still good to go.” He believes this mindset was crucial to overcoming his losses and rebuilding his life.

Lose Millions, Win Life, launched at Marina Mall, offers practical strategies for bouncing back from adversity and is available in hard copy for €23 through Ozols’ website. Early reviews suggest it will be a key read for 2025.
