Adjetey Anang, a celebrated figure in Ghanaian acting, recently shared his optimism about the burgeoning theatre scene in Ghana. Speaking with Doreen Avio, Anang expressed a sense of relief and joy, noting that his years of dedication to nurturing the local arts are finally bearing fruit. He emphasized the critical role of audience participation and the vital necessity of corporate support to ensure the theatre sector’s long-term viability. His comments come ahead of the launch of ‘Ghana Must Go’, an upcoming theatre project by Latif Abubakar’s Globe Productions.

“It’s a relief because we’ve always yearned for this, that we worked tirelessly over the years, and we are beginning to see that it’s bearing fruits now,” Anang said, reflecting on the years of perseverance that have led to this moment. For Adjetey Anang, the progress he sees is a direct result of consistent, dedicated effort, proving that hard work and consistency are vital ingredients for success in the arts. He also underscored the importance of a strong partnership with audiences, who are, after all, the consumers of the art.

The actor is also advocating for increased support from corporate entities, highlighting the mutual benefits of such collaborations.

“We’re also reaching out to the corporate spaces and all stakeholders to come on board, together, because there are many things that we can do together,” he stated. Adjetey Anang envisions a scenario where financial backing from corporations allows for expanded opportunities, bringing in diverse skill sets, fresh creative ideas, and valuable resources that can propel the theatre sector forward.

“It starts with us, doesn’t it? I mean how we relate to one another, how we hold each other in high esteem, is so crucial and when it starts at home then the world looks at us and say these people are one and so united front, oneness even when we have differences, we don’t wash our dirty linens in public. Let us keep together and be each other’s brother’s keeper so that once we have the united front, nothing can break us and so we remaining in oneness is very crucial in this sense”.

Adjetey Anang passionately advocates for unity and mutual respect within the creative community. He believes that this internal solidarity forms the bedrock upon which external recognition and strength are built. A united front, according to Anang, not only fosters mutual support but also presents an unbreakable image to the world.

Adjetey Anang’s insights offer a hopeful outlook for Ghanaian theatre, marking a moment where sustained effort is beginning to yield tangible results. As the sector navigates the challenges of ensuring long-term sustainability, Anang’s perspective shines a light on the power of audience engagement, the necessity of corporate alliances, and the strength found in creative unity. As ‘Ghana Must Go’ prepares to premiere, it stands as a beacon of progress and potential within Ghanaian theatre, inviting all stakeholders to participate in nurturing its continued evolution.
