Food Crisis in Ghana: Theft of Essential Supplies Delays School Reopening

The recent theft of over 150 bags of maize and other essential food supplies designated for students in 15 Senior High Schools in the Northern Region of Ghana has exacerbated the food shortage, potentially delaying the commencement of the new academic term. The perpetrators targeted the Buffer Stock Company warehouse which is crucial for ensuring food security in Ghana. The stolen goods also consist of agricultural chemicals and fertilizers, some of which were earmarked for the Department of Agriculture and Veterinary Service. The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has expressed concern over the matter, calling for immediate government intervention to avert further delays in the reopening of schools.
