Accra, Ghana – As Ghana faces the pressing need for effective youth empowerment strategies, exacerbated by the unique challenges confronting its young population, a pivotal training initiative recently took center stage. The Scout Guide Leader Training Intensive Course, held in Accra, aimed to address critical gaps in leadership and equip participants with the skills necessary to foster positive change. Organized by the Scout and Guide Fellowship Ghana (SGF-Gh), the workshop underscored the importance of investing in youth leadership for national development. This intensive Scout Guide Leader Training course in Accra aimed to bolster youth empowerment strategies, a vital step for Ghana‘s future.

The three-day capacity-building workshop provided a comprehensive platform for leaders to enhance their skills and knowledge. Participants engaged in sessions designed to cultivate modern leadership techniques, explore the potential of digital literacy and AI, and sharpen their critical thinking abilities. The curriculum was carefully crafted to address the evolving needs of Ghana’s youth and prepare leaders to effectively guide and mentor them.

Enhancing Leadership Skills for National Development

The Scout and Guide Fellowship Ghana (SGF-Gh) strategically designed the workshop to address leadership gaps prevalent in schools and communities across the nation. By reinforcing the core values of the Scout and Guide movement, the organization aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and patriotism among its leaders. According to SGF-Gh President Andrew Botchway, equipping leaders with the necessary tools is paramount to shaping responsible and patriotic citizens.

The training extended beyond traditional leadership concepts, incorporating crucial elements of digital literacy and artificial intelligence. This forward-thinking approach recognized the importance of technology in modern youth development and prepared leaders to navigate the digital landscape effectively. Furthermore, the emphasis on critical thinking and civic engagement aimed to empower leaders to foster informed and active participation in society.

Revitalizing the Scout and Guide Movement in Ghana

Andrew Botchway emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to revitalize the Scout and Guide movement in Ghana. He noted the declining visibility and impact of the movement in recent years, urging a collective effort to restore its prominence. “We must equip our leaders with the tools needed to help shape responsible, patriotic citizens,” Botchway stated, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

Ghana is currently bidding to host the 2027 International Scouts and Guide Fellowship (ISGF) World Conference, a prestigious event that would bring together members from around the globe. In preparation for this bid, plans are underway for “The Ghana Experience” jamboree in 2026, showcasing the country’s rich culture and vibrant scouting community. Achieving this goal requires increased support from both the government and the private sector, ensuring that youth leadership initiatives receive the resources they need to thrive.

Fostering Responsible Leadership and Citizenship

Stephanie Birikorang, another key figure in the Scout and Guide movement, shared her perspective on the transformative potential of the workshop, viewing it as “a stepping stone to inspire responsible leadership.” She highlighted the importance of strengthening the spirit of service and citizenship among young people, fostering a sense of responsibility and commitment to their communities.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants, including experienced facilitators, adult members, youth leaders, and volunteers. This collaborative environment facilitated the exchange of ideas and best practices, creating a strong and united fellowship dedicated to youth development.

Empowering Young Women Through Girl Guiding

Sylvia Nicole Eshun shed light on the crucial role of Girl Guiding in empowering young women. She emphasized the Self-Smart Programme, which focuses on internet safety and responsible social media use. This initiative aims to equip young women with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly, promoting peer advocacy and responsible online behavior.

“Girl Guiding is a lifelong journey of self-discovery and purposeful service,” Eshun stated, urging parents and community leaders to support the movement. She highlighted the transformative impact of Girl Guiding in shaping confident, capable, and compassionate young women who are ready to make a positive difference in the world.

The Scout Guide Leader Training event signifies a crucial investment in youth empowerment within Ghana, setting the stage for future generations. By equipping leaders with modern skills and fostering a strong sense of community, the workshop has laid a solid foundation for the continued growth and development of Ghana’s youth, and readers are encouraged to support youth development initiatives and the Scout and Guide movement in Ghana.
